Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.

Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary the state board of retirement is hereby authorized and directed to grant creditable service to Robert M. Penta for the period from March 2002 until the last day of his public service as a publicly elected official in the City of Medford

This credit for service in years and age shall be added to his existing retirement allowance on an annual basis and his retirement shall be recalculated annually. The granting of this retirement credit shall not interrupt the retirement benefit already in place for Robert M. Penta.
