An Act relative to the town manager in the town of North Andover |
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of any general or special law to the contrary, except as may otherwise be provided by chapter 31 of the General Laws, the town manager shall have the power, on the basis of merit and fitness alone, to appoint, suspend, or remove all police officers below the rank of Chief in the town of North Andover, subject to the approval of the Board of Selectmen.
SECTION 2. Section 1 of this act shall not be interpreted to impair the civil service status of any person holding the position of police officer below the rank of Chief on the effective date of this act.
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
