LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

September 13, 2007.

To the Honorable Senate and House of Representatives:

Pursuant to Article LVI, as amended by Article XC, Section 3 of the Amendments to the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, I am returning to you for amendment House Bill No. 1931, “An Act Designating A Certain Pier In The Town Of Winthrop As The Charles J. Famolare Pier.”

This bill designates the Town Landing Pier in Winthrop as the Charles J. Famolare Pier, in memory of Mr. Famolare, who was a former harbormaster in the town.  However, we have been advised that the area to be designated in Mr. Famolare’s memory is the Town Landing, not the Town Landing Pier, and we have been requested to return the bill for amendment.  Accordingly, the accurate designation should be the Charles J. Famolare Landing.

I, therefore, recommend that House Bill No. 1931 be amended by striking out the first sentence and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:-

The Town Landing located in the town of Winthrop shall be designated and known as the Charles J. Famolare Landing, in memory of Charles J. Famolare, a former harbormaster in the town of Winthrop.

I also recommend amending the title of the bill, to accurately reflect its purpose by striking out the title and inserting in place thereof the following language:-

An Act Designating A Certain Landing In The Town Of Winthrop As The Charles J. Famolare Landing.

Respectfully submitted,

                                                                                       DEVAL L. PATRICK,

                                                                                          Governor.
