An Act placing certain questions on the ballot of the November 2008 presidential election. |
Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to immediately place a certain question on the Presidential ballot in the town of Palmer, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House
of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
as follows:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the state secretary shall print the following question on the ballot to be used in the presidential election in the town of Palmer:-
Shall a commission be elected to revise the charter of the town of Palmer?
SECTION 2. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the state secretary shall place the names and addresses of candidates for charter commission in the town of Palmer on the ballot to be used in the presidential election in the town of Palmer. Candidates for the commission shall submit their nomination papers to the registrars of voters no later than 5:00 p.m. on July 29, 2008. The registrars shall complete the certification of signatures no later than 5:00 p.m. on August 12, 2008. Candidates shall file certified nomination papers with the town clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on August 19, 2008. Withdrawals and objections to certified nomination papers shall be filed no later than 5:00 p.m. on August 22, 2008.
The town clerk shall submit the names of candidates to the state secretary in writing no later than August 26, 2008.
