An Act for a special law regarding the designation of polling places in the city of Boston

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts

In the Year Two Thousand and Seven.

BILL FILING TEMPLATE

Be It Enacted, by the Senate and House of Representatives, etc., as follows:

SECTION 1.           Definitions.

As used in this special law, the following words shall, unless the context requires otherwise, have the following meanings:

                City means City of Boston.

SECTION 2.

Notwithstanding the provisions of Massachusetts General Law Chapter 54, Section 24, or any other provision of any general or special law to the contrary, the Board of Election Commissioners shall designate the polling place for each voting precinct in the City and cause it to be suitably fitted up and prepared therefor.  The Board of Election Commissioners shall locate the polling place in a public, orderly, and convenient portion of the precinct; provided, however, that if the Board of Election Commissioners determines that the public convenience would be better served, it may designate a polling place in an adjacent precinct of the city.  In circumstances in which accessibility concerns arise, the Board of Election Commissioners may designate a polling location in a non-adjacent precinct of the City. Such precinct shall be located no more than two precincts away from the original precinct, regardless of direction or ward.

SECTION 3.           This act shall take effect upon its passage.
