relating to certain state owned land in the city of New

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. The lands in the city of New Bedford described in section 2 and under the care, custody and control of the department of mental retardation are hereby dedicated to the public for the purpose of and use as forest, agriculture and open space protection, management and conservation, environmental education and public access for passive recreation and enjoyment and shall be held solely for these purposes and uses. The department of mental retardation, in consultation with the executive office of environmental affairs, may adopt regulations for the appropriate operation of and reasonable limitations on public access to such parcels.
SECTION 2. The parcels dedicated in section 1 are those lands located in the city of New Bedford at 124 Maple street, identified on city maps as parcel ID number 45/237 and commonly known as “the Reed Estate”, with the exception of that portion of the land that is occupied by its current structure.
