Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the Department of Education shall conduct a study to determine the effects and feasibility of allowing students to take the essay portion of the language arts section of the MCAS with the writing tool of their choice, including computers, and shall submit the results of said study to the Clerk of the House and Senate and the Joint Committee on Education, Arts and Humanities no later than July 31, 2008.
