AN ACT relative to student tutors for the MCAS

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1.   Section 1B of  chapter 69, as appearing in the 2000 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the ninth paragraph the following paragraph:-

Any high school student with at least a 3.0 grade point average in the student’s senior year shall, with the consent of the school’s principal and a recommendation of a teacher, be allowed to commit three hours a week to tutoring students in preparation for the MCAS tests, and upon completion of tutoring service for one year, be entitled to a tuition credit of $500.00, it the student matriculates to a public state college or university. 

The funds for tuition credit shall come from appropriations for MCAS tutors and shall be contingent upon their availability.
