court for legislation to institute interim budgets for
towns. Municipalities and Regional Government. |
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 44 of the 2000 Official Edition of the Massachusetts General Laws is hereby amended by adding the following new section:-
SECTION 56 ½. The board of selectmen may submit an interim appropriation budget for a period not to exceed three months for approval by town meeting if said town has not approved an operating budget for the fiscal year because of circumstances beyond its control.
The board may then reschedule a town meeting to vote on an operating budget for the fiscal year to be in place before October 1st of that year.
