AN ACT creating the public safety officers' catastrophic injury fund

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 100 of chapter 41 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2000 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following:-

There is hereby established a fund to be known as the Public Safety Officers' Catastrophic Injury Fund to which shall be credited any appropriations, bond proceeds or other monies authorized by the General Court for the purpose of the fund. The fund shall be available for cities and towns that have incurred expenses in accordance with this section and cities and towns shall only be reimbursed for such costs. Grant awards from the fund shall be subject to appropriation and approval by the General Court.

SECTION 2: The town of Westminster shall be awarded $1,000,000 from the Public Safety Officers' Catastrophic Injury Fund, established by section 1 of this act, for the expenses incurred by the town of Westminster, pursuant to section 100 of chapter 41 of the General Laws, for the medical costs in connection with the injuries suffered by police officer Lawrence Jupin.
