AN ACT providing for a study of re-entry programs in the department of corrections and county jails

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. The Executive Office of Public Safety shall study the services offered by the department of corrections and county jails to those who are released from custody.

Said study shall consider, without limitation, the benefits of the services currently offered; the need for additional services, such as education and job skills training.

Said study shall make the appropriate recommendations for any corrective action in order to prepare those who are released from custody to re-enter society and in order to reduce the rate of recidivism.

Results of said study shall be filed with the clerks of the senate and house of representatives and the joint committee on public safety and homeland security by December 31, 2007.
