Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 19 of Chapter 34B of the General Laws is hereby amended by striking paragraph (d) and inserting in place thereof the following: (d) The retirement board may employ clerical and other assistants as may be required to transact the business of the retirement system. All permanent employees employed pursuant to this paragraph shall be members of the retirement system, but shall not be eligible, while employed by or upon retirement from the regional retirement system to be a member or candidate for election to the retirement board, however, this prohibition shall not apply to a county treasurer, or chairman of the board, when employed as a chief executive officer of the regional retirement board pursuant to paragraph (b) of this section.
