AN ACT honoring distinguished women in Massachusetts

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 18B of chapter 8 of the General Laws, as most recently appearing in the 2004 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting at the end thereof, the following:

The superintendent shall ensure, subject to appropriation or gift, that said memorial shall honor, at a minimum, the following women who were born in the Commonwealth and whose contributions gained national recognition:

Abigail Adams

Susan B. Anthony

Emily Greene Balch

Clara Barton

Emily Dickinson

Margaret Fuller

Mary Lyon

Maria Mitchell

Frances Perkins

Deborah Sampson

Lucy Stone

Lydia Taft

Mercy Otis Warren

The superintendent shall be authorized to add additional women from time to time who are generally acknowledged to have achieved a stature equal to those initially honored in said memorial.

SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect upon passage.
