Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1.  Section 2E of chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 1998 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following subsection:-

(c)  The registrar shall furnish, upon application, to owners of private passenger motor vehicles who are members of the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Club distinctive registration plates which shall display on their face a design representing the Blue Knights.   The design of such plates shall be determined by the Blue Knights in consultation with and subject to the approval of the registrar. The logo of the Blue Knights shall be used in conjunction with the numbers already available to each chapter. On automobiles and trailers, the logo shall be issued with any numbers as the registrar shall determine. There shall be a fee of not less $40 for such plates which shall be in addition to the established registration fee for private passenger motor vehicles, such fee being payable at the time of registration of such vehicle and at each renewal thereof. A letter signed by both the president and secretary of a Blue Knights chapter indicating affiliation with the Blue Knights shall be presented to the registrar at the time of application or before the distinctive registration plates are issued or reissued.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect six months after its passage.
