AN ACT TO PROMOTE VETERANS BENEFITS

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the Department of Revenue, shall be authorized to design and designate a place for a checkoff box on its annual tax forms whereby taxpayers who are veterans as defined in Chapter 130 of the Acts of 2005, shall be asked if they qualify under said definition

The Department of Veterans’ Services shall enter into an interagency service agreement with the Department of Revenue to obtain said veterans’ names and current addresses for the purpose of, but not limited to, contacting said veterans in order to verify eligibility for the benefits listed in Chapter 130 of the Acts of 2005. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the Department of Revenue is hereby authorized to release said names and addresses to the Department of Veterans’ Services. The Department of Veterans’ Services shall submit an annual report by the last day of the subsequent fiscal year to the Joint Committee on Veterans & Federal Affairs detailing the number of veterans that have taken advantage of the program

SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect upon its passage.
