Quinn and other members of the General Court (with the approval of the mayor and city council) for legislation authorizing the city of New Bedford School Committee and the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth to enter into lease agreementfor term not to exceed twenty five years. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of
Representatives in General Court assembled,
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 3 of Chapter 40 of the General Laws or any other general or special laws to the contrary, the New Bedford School Committee, acting on behalf of the City of New Bedford, New Bedford Public Schools shall be authorized to lease all or a portion of the land and any buildings thereon known as the former “Naval Reserve Center”, to the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth for a period not to exceed twenty-five years. The purpose of the lease will be to collaborate with the School Department of the City of New Bedford for educational purposes designed to enhance the educational opportunities for the students of New Bedford.
The subject property is comprised of approximately 2.02 acres of land and improvements owned by the City of New Bedford, New Bedford Public Schools, pursuant to a Quitclaim Deed granted by the United States of America on October 28, 1997, which is recorded with the Bristol County Registry of Deeds (S.D.) at Book 3987, Page 183.
