AN ACT PERMITTING A MUNICIPAL COMMITTEE IN THE TOWN OF FREETOWN TO CONDUCT RAFFLES

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1.   Notwithstanding section 7A of chapter 271 of the General Laws, nor any other general or special law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, the Freetown Fourth-of-July Parade & Fireworks Committee, in this act referred to as “the committee,” shall be eligible to apply for a raffle permit under said section 7A of chapter 271 to conduct no more than two raffles per calendar year, provided, that no more than one such raffle shall be conducted between the months of January and June, inclusive; and provided further, that no more than one such raffle shall be conducted between the months of July and December, inclusive.

SECTION 2. A “qualified member” as required by said section 7A of chapter 271 shall be construed to mean, for the purposes of this act, a member of the committee appointed by the Board of Selectmen and sworn to duties by the Town Clerk of the Town of Freetown.

SECTION 3. The Committee shall be exempt from the requirement set forth in section 7A of chapter 271 to file a return with, and pay taxes to, the State Lottery Commission.

SECTION 4.
This act shall continue to be effective for any committee appointed by the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Freetown that is the lawful successor to the Fourth-of-July Parade & Fireworks Committee.

SECTION 5. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
