AN ACT AUTHORIZING WIRETAPPING TO PREVENT AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE FRAUD

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1.

Chapter 272 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2002 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after section 99 the following new section:

SECTION 101.  The attorney for the state may authorize an application to a judge of competent jurisdiction for, and such judge may grant in conformity with section 99 of chapter 272 an order authorizing the interception of wire, oral or electronic communications by an investigative or law enforcement officer, or an agency having responsibility for the investigation of the offense as to which the application is made, when such interception may provide or has provided evidence of any offense which involves automobile insurance fraud.
