Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1.
Section 57 of chapter 149 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2000 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding to the end thereof the following:-
As an alternative to initiating criminal proceedings as set forth in the paragraph above, the attorney general’s office may issue a written warning or a civil citation. A separate citation may be issued requiring payment of a civil penalty of not more than $5,000 for each violation. Details for payment of penalties, grievance procedures, and consequences of failure to pay civil money penalties are referenced in section 78 of this chapter.
