Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1.
Chapter 115 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2002 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after section 9 the following new section:--
SECTION 9 ½ . Upon application, there shall be allowed and paid out of the treasury of the commonwealth without appropriation a bonus payment of five hundred dollars to those persons domiciled in Massachusetts immediately prior to entry in the armed forces who participated in Iraq, including a reservist or member of the national guard, upon discharge from active duty, in areas as described by proper federal authority at any time between March 20, 2003 and the end of the mission as determined by federal authorities.
