Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1.
Notwithstanding the provisions of the Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 85, Section 2 or any other general or special law or regulation to the contrary, the City of Quincy, is herby authorized to establish by ordinance Senior Citizen Safety Zones, which may be an area adjacent to a facility which may be publicly or privately owned and used as senior citizen housing, a hospital, nursing home or assisted living facility, a community center of which senior activities are conducted on a regular basis or a congregate elderly facility approved as a Planned Unit Development by the City of Quincy.
Section 2. In any Senior Citizen Safety Zone, the City of Quincy may be ordinance under the direction of the Traffic Engineer, take such action as may be necessary to reduce vehicular speed by reducing speed limits, install signalization and or appropriate signage and the re-striping or roadways. The Traffic Engineer may adopt and amend rules and regulations to carry out the provisions of this Act.
Section 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
