AN ACT RELATIVE TO THE INSPECTION AND CERTIFICATION OF AIR TANKS ON UTILITY HIGH VOLTAGE CIRCUIT BREAKERS

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1.

Chapter 146, section 34 of the Massachusetts General Laws, as appearing in the 2002 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting the following at the end of said section:

Tanks used in and as part of electrical substations owned or operated by an electric company (as defined by the Massachusetts General Laws chapter 164, section 1) shall be exempt from the provisions of this section; provided that such tanks bear the stamp of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and provided that such electrical substation is enclosed, locked and inaccessible to the public, and provided that such tanks are inspected and maintained in accordance with industry standards under written procedures.
