Communications.

The following communications were severally received and placed on file:

A communication from the Honorable Michael O. Moore pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 268A of the General Laws (received in the Office of the Clerk of the Senate on Friday, January 7, 2011);

A communication from the Secretary of the Commonwealth (under the provisions of Section 90 of Chapter 4 of the Acts of 2003) submitting copies of the Registry of Deeds Technology Advisory Committee Report. (Copies will be forwarded as requested to the Senate Committees on Ways and Means and Post Audit and Oversight as soon as the committees are established) (received January 7, 2011); and

A communication from the Honorable Georgiy Borisenko, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the Russian Federation acknowledging receipt of Resolutions adopted by the Senate commemorating the shared interest in economic development between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Russian Federation.

PAPER FROM THE HOUSE

Notice was received from the Speaker of the House of Representatives announcing the following appointments:

That Representatives McMurtry of Dedham and Peake of Provincetown have been designated (under Section 1 of Chapter 354 of the Acts of 2008) to serve as his appointees to the Massachusetts Creative Economy Council; and

That Representative Hogan of Stow has been designated (under Section 33 of Chapter 6 of the General Laws) to serve as his appointed on the Board of Trustees of the State Library.

Moment of Silence.

The President made the following request:

“On behalf of the people of the Commonwealth, the Chair asks all senators, staff and guests to bow their heads in a moment of silence as we remember in our thoughts and prayers those who lost their lives and those who were injured in the senseless violence in Arizona this weekend.

This violence is not who we are or what our nation is about, now is a time to come together and be there for each other and for the victims and their families. Please join me in a moment of silence.”

Mr. McGee in the Chair, the Chair, members, guests and employees then recited the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

Resolutions.

The following resolutions (having been filed with the Clerk) were considered forthwith and adopted, as follows:-
Resolutions (filed by Messrs. Knapik and Welch) “congratulating Gerald D. Healy on being named the Grand Marshall for the 2011 Holyoke Saint Patrick’s Parade.”

Ordered, That when the Senate adjourns today, it adjourn to meet again on Thursday next at eleven o’clock A.M.
