Met at one minute past eleven o’clock A.M. (Mr. Timilty in the Chair).

The Chair (Mr. Timilty), members, guests and staff then recited the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

Qualification of a Senator

The Honorable Thomas M. McGee did at twenty-seven minutes before twelve o’clock noon, on Monday, January 7, 2013, take and subscribe the oath of office as State Senator from the Third Essex District.

Communications.

The following communications were severally received and placed on file:

Communication from His Excellency Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth, stating his reasons for not signing House, No. 4265 of 2012, “An Act relative to financial services contracts for dental benefits corporations” (received in the Office of the Clerk of the Senate on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at twenty-three minutes before five o’clock P.M); and

Communication from the Honorable Therese Murray, President of the Senate, announcing the appointment (pursuant to Section 2TTT of Chapter 29 of the Acts of 2012) of Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz to the Commonwealth Information Technology Initiative (CITI) Fund Advisory Board.

Resolutions.

The following resolutions (having been filed with the Clerk) were severally considered forthwith and adopted, as follows:-

Resolutions (filed by Mr. Knapik) “congratulating Brian Q. Corridan on being named the Grand Marshal of the 2013 Holyoke Saint Patrick's Parade”;
Resolutions (filed by Mr. Ross) “congratulating Susan Hinski on her retirement from the Plainville Council on Aging”;
Resolutions (filed by Mr. Ross) “congratulating Jacob Denning on his elevation to the rank of Eagle Scout”; and
Resolutions (filed by Ms. Spilka) “congratulating Craig Barrett on his elevation to the rank of Eagle Scout.”

PAPER FROM THE HOUSE.

The Senate Order that the joint rules of last session be observed as the temporary Joint Rules of the two branches for the present General Court,-- came from the House adopted, in concurrence, with an amendment inserting in line 2, after the word “Court” the following words “until the adoption of permanent joint rules”
On motion of Mr. Tarr, the House amendment was considered forthwith and adopted, in concurrence.

Ordered, That when the Senate adjourns today, it adjourn to meet again on Thursday next at eleven o’clock A.M.
