| Apply for a Library Card |
To qualify for a State Library of Massachusetts library card, you
must be a current, permanent employee of Executive or Legislative branches of government in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and have a valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts identification card.
State House interns are NOT eligible for library cards. Use this link to find out how State House interns may use the State Library.

After verification of state employment a library card will be sent to
your office address. You should receive your card in 5 to 7 business
days. Once you receive your library card, you may use it to access the research databases.

Photocopy policies
State employees and interns:
May copy up to 15 pages per legislative office per day. Please ask for
short term loan to go back to your office for extended photocopying.
General public: There are
photocopy machines in the main reading room (room 341), the periodicals
balcony (room 442), and Special Collections (room 55). Photocopies are
$0.20 a sheet. Reproductions from the microform machines are $0.25 a
sheet. The machines accept coins and $1.00 bills.
For all: Special Collections has specific photo reproduction procedures.

Permisson to reproduce
Please read the reproduction policy if you have not already done so. Then read this form thoroughly (two printed pages). Print and complete one copy. Mail/fax this copy
with appropriate signatures to the Special Collections Department.
Please include your return address. A countersigned copy will be
returned to you for your records.
