| Ask a Librarian |
The reference staff of the State Library of Massachusetts will only respond to questions about Massachusetts, that can be answered briefly and are of a legislative, legal or governmental nature. Please be as specific and detailed as possible so that we can answer your question in a timely manner.
Example: "Who were the senators from Massachusetts in 1886?"
Please note: The State Library of Massachusetts is unable to offer legal interpretation or advice. |
| Getting Answers |
We check email requests each morning and generally respond within three working days. In-state requests are given priority before requests coming from out-of-state. We provide only Massachusetts related information.
If you have a lengthy or detailed request (Monday-Friday; 9am-5pm):
Phone or Fax: Phone: 617.727.2590 Fax: 617.727.5819
Mail: Reference Department; State Library of Massachusetts; State House, Room 341; Boston, MA 02133
Another option is to use 24/7 Reference, available from the Boston Public Library. This is a new service that lets you, a Massachusetts resident, ask questions and get answers, in real time, on the Internet, from live reference staff. |
