During an interview, be sure to ask for a business card from everyone you speak with so that you can quickly send a note thanking them for their time.  An effective thank you note should:

  • Remind the interviewer of the position for which you are applying
  • Show enthusiasm for the job
  • Remind them of the skills that make you a good fit for the job

If your interviewers plan to make a hiring decision quickly, you should e-mail them your thank you note; if not, sending a note in the mail is appropriate.

You should also take careful note during the interview of any additional information requested from you, including references and a writing sample, and be sure to send those items as quickly as possible.
