Description

Apprentices will receive training in the various work experiences listed below. The order in which this training is given will be determined by the flow of work on the job and will not necessarily be in the order listed. The times allotted to these various processes are the estimated times which the average apprentice will require to learn each phase of the trade. They are intended only as a guide to indicate the quality of the training being provided and the ability of the apprentice to absorb this training in an average amount of time. The total term of apprenticeship is indicated below. The two (2) columns at the right constitute a record of progress for the apprentice. Whenever an apprentice commences their training in a listed item, the Apprentice Supervisor will initial the left hand column and will also initial the right hand column when the apprentice has reached proficiency in the item. Items for which credit for previous experience has been allowed will also be initialed.

A.Repairs, replaces and assembles wings, fuselage, tail assembly, landing gear, control cables, propeller assembly, fuel and oil tanks.1,000
B.Uses tools such as power shears, sheet metal breaker, arc and acetylene welding equipment, rivet gun, air and electric drills.480
C.Rebuilds or replace airframe or its components.800
D.Consults manufactures and airline maintenance manuals for specifications for repair and replacement.240
E.Examines engines for cracked cylinders, oil leaks, sticking or burnt valves.320
F.Inspects turbine blades to detect cracks or breaks.320
G.Tests engines using test equipment such as ignition analyzer, compression checker, distributor timer and ammeter.800
H.Replaces or repairs worn or damaged parts, carburetors, supercharges, magnetos, using hand tools, gages, and testing equipment.640
I.Removes engine from aircraft, disassembles and inspects parts for wear, warping or other defects.800
J.Repairs or replaces defective engine parts re-assembles and installs engine in aircraft.1,000
K.Adjusts, repairs electrical wiring, accessories and instruments.720
L.Inspects services, repairs pneumatic and hydraulic systems.720
M.Perform miscellaneous service duties, flushing crankcase, cleaning screens, greasing parts and checking brakes.160

Related Technical Instruction
