DLS' Industrial Hygiene Laboratory, provides analytical and technical support to engineers and inspectors within the department, unions, local boards of health and state agencies. Samples are collected from workplaces throughout the Commonwealth and evaluated to assist in the identification and subsequent control and elimination of hazards to the workers.
Qualifications
Participant in the Industrial Hygiene Proficiency Analytical Testing Program administered by the American Industrial Hygiene Association. (Metals, Organic Solvents, Asbestos PLM)
Participant in the Environmental Lead Proficiency Analytical Testing Program administered by the American Industrial Hygiene Association. (Paint chips, Dust wipes, Air, Soil)
OSHA approved blood lead laboratory through participation in the College of American Pathologist (CAP) Blood Lead Survey Program
Participant in the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene Blood Lead Proficiency Testing Program
Participant in the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) sponsored Blood Lead Laboratory Reference System (BLLRS) instituted to establish and maintain an accuracy base for blood lead levels

4. Blood Lead Analysis
As a service to workers, who are required to have blood lead and zinc protoporphyrin testing prior to or after obtaining a license to engage in lead abatement work under the state's deleading regulations (454 CMR 22.00) or workers who fall under OSHA's Industrial Lead Standard (29 CFR 1910.1025) or OSHA's Lead in Construction Standard (29 CFR 1926.62), the laboratory will draw and analyze blood for a fee of $20.00.
To help insure appropriate medical monitoring of workers, DLS requires that our laboratory perform blood lead analysis only with a written order of a physician or other health care provider acting under the direct supervision of a licensed physician. To facilitate this process we will accept a standing written order signed by the physician, on their letterhead, including the employer's name, address, each employee's name and an indication that the blood tests be conducted under the requirements of an appropriate regulations. This standing order will be kept on file and will be valid for one year. The laboratory will send results to the ordering physician and the employer.
