UI Online Quick Start for Claimants

Instructions on how to access and use the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) UI Online system. (See the user guide for more detailed instructions.)

First time applying for benefits

If this is your first time applying for Massachusetts unemployment benefits, follow these steps:

  1. Go to: http://www.mass.gov/dua
  2. Click UI Online for Claimants.
  3. Click Apply for Benefits.
  4. Follow the instructions to complete the application. This also creates an account for you in UI Online.


For returning Claimants

If you received unemployment benefits in the past, you already have an account. Regardless of whether you are applying for benefits, or accessing your active account, use your old access information to bring up UI Online.

  1. Go to:  http://www.mass.gov/dua
  2. Click UI Online for Claimants.
  3. Click Log in to my Account.
  4. Enter information as instructed:
  • If you formerly used WebCert, use your SSN and your WebCert User ID and Password to log in.
  • If you formerly used TeleCert, use your SSN and your TeleCert PIN to log in.

You’ll be asked to create a new password and select a Security Question and Answer.

NOTE: If you still need to apply for benefits, click the Apply for Benefits link in the menu of services on the left.


Log in to your UI Online account

  1. Go to: http://www.mass.gov/dua
  2. Click UI Online for Claimants.
  3. Click Log in to my Account.
  4. Enter your Social Security Number twice on the Log in page.
  5. Enter your password on the Password page.

6.Click Login.

To exit, click Logoff in the upper left corner.

Important tip:  Always use the Previous or Next buttons on the UI Online page to navigate. Do not use your browser’s Back or Forward buttons.


UI Online Services for Claimants

  • Request a weekly payment (sign or verify for weekly payments)
  • Reopen an inactive claim
  • File an appeal
  • Manage debt if you have been overpaid by DUA
  • Print a 1099G form


Password resets

  • If you forgot your password, click Forgot Password before logging in.
  • If you can log in but want to change your password, click Change Password in the upper left corner.


Request a weekly benefit payment

  1. Log in to your UI Online account.
  2. Click the Request Benefit Payment link in the menu of services on the left.
  3. Follow the prompts. You will certify your eligibility for benefits and provide your work search activities for the prior week.

NOTE: This link won’t appear if it is too early to request the week’s payment, or if your claim is inactive.


Reopen a claim

  1. Log in to your UI Online account.
  2. Click the Reopen Claim link in the menu of services on the left.
  3. Follow the prompts. You will provide information to determine your eligibility.

NOTE: This link won’t appear if your claim is active, or if you are not eligible to reopen a claim.


File an appeal about employment dates or wages used in computing your benefit

  1. Log in to your UI Online account.
  2. Click View and Maintain Account Information.
  3. Click Monetary and Issue Summary.
  4. In the Monetary Determination area, click the applicable entry in the Status column.
  5. On the Monetary Determination page, click File Appeal, and follow the prompts.


File an appeal on a determination of your eligibility

  1. Log in to your UI Online account.
  2. Click View and Maintain Account Information.
  3. Click Monetary and Issue Summary.
  4. In the Monetary Determination area, click the applicable entry in the Determination column.
  5. On the Eligibility Determination page, click File Appeal, and follow the prompts.


Manage debt

  1. Log in to your UI Online account.
  2. Click Manage Debt. (This link only appears if you have debt with DUA.)


Request 1099G

  1. Log in to your UI Online account.
  2. Click Request 1099G.


View or change contact or other information

  1. Log in to your UI Online account.
  2. Click View and Maintain Account Information.
  • Check your account balance and claim status – click Payment History.
  • Verify your last payment amount and date – click Payment History.
  • Change your address and contact information – click Contact Information.
  • Change your payment method – click Payment Method Options.
  • Elect tax withholding – click Payment Method Options.
  • Set up electronic correspondence – click Contact Information.
  • Add a dependent – click Dependent Information.
