Federal Extended Benefits Update (05/22/12)
- On February 22, 2012, President Barack Obama signed into law the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 which provided an extension of federally funded unemployment benefits. If you are an existing UI claimant, please continue to certify for your weekly benefits.
- Given the improving unemployment rate in Massachusetts, the Federal-State Extended Benefits (EB) Program has triggered off in Massachusetts effective March 8, 2012.
Federal-State Extended Benefits Program (EB)
Federal/State Extended Benefits Program (EB) is a supplemental program that pays extended compensation, during a period of specified high unemployment. The EB Program has triggered off in Massachusetts effective March 8, 2012.
Section 30 Benefits
If you need to acquire new skills in order to become re-employed, you may be eligible for Section 30 benefits.
During the current period of extended benefits, claimant can apply for Section 30 at any time during the eligibility period. After the period of extended benefits is over, the program will revert back to the original requirements of filing within the 15th compensable weeks.
