Several web sites pop up each year offering to help unemployed workers collect unemployment benefits, many times for a fee. Not all sites are illegal, but many are confusing, inaccurate and unnecessary. Additionally, workers providing personal information such as dates of birth and social security numbers to these sites may be increasing their risk of identity theft.
The Commonwealth encourages workers who have been laid off to file claims for benefits directly with DUA. Massachusetts does not allow third party agents to file claims on behalf of laid off workers.
