If you are the whole or main support of your children, you may be eligible for a weekly dependency allowance. The amount of the dependency allowance is $25 per dependent child. Spouses are not included.

The dependency allowance you receive cannot be more than 50 percent of your weekly benefit rate.

If you want to claim a dependency allowance when you file your claim, you will be asked to provide the social security numbers of your dependent children.

Your dependent child or children must be either:

  • under 18 years of age;
  • under 24 years old and attending an educational institution full-time;
  • any age, but unable to earn wages due to mental or physical incapacity.

While you are collecting benefits, you must inform DUA if there is any change in the number of your dependent children or in your status of providing support.
