• Always tell DUA about any change that could affect your claim—any wages you earn or jobs that you get. If you move, please make sure you tell us your new address. Your unemployment insurance check cannot be forwarded.
  • If you are eligible for benefits, we want your checks to reach you as quickly as possible. Please be sure that your name is on your mailbox so that your checks can be delivered.
  • Whether you choose to use TeleCert or WebCert to file for your benefits, it is important that you call or go online every week.
  • If you return to work full-time, stop claiming benefits as of the day you return to work.

Continuing to collect benefits after you have returned to work full-time is considered fraud. To prevent fraud, DUA matches records with those of other state and federal agencies including the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, the Social Security Administration, the state Department of Corrections, and others.

  • If you get a part-time job while you are collecting benefits, report your earnings to DUA.
  • Conduct an active search for work and keep up-to-date records of your worksearch activities.
  • Use the employment services provided by One-Stop Career Centers to help you get back to work as quickly as possible.
  • If you are disqualified for any reason, you have the right to file an appeal. It is important to file your appeal within the time period specified by law.
  • If you need training to help you find new employment, read about approved training. It is important to apply for your training program by the 15th paid week of your claim, if you want to be eligible for an extension of your benefits. An extension of up to 18 weeks of benefits is available under certain circumstances.
