Voluntary Leaving (VL) – G.L. c. 151A, § 25(e)(1)

Decisions which address whether a claimant, who voluntarily resigned from employment, is entitled to benefits, in general.

These cases address whether a claimant who failed to show up for work is entitled to benefits.

Eligibility decisions which considered whether a claimant quit a job for a good reason and whether that reason was attributable to the employer.

These cases considered eligibility for benefits where a legal impediment prevented a claimant from remaining at a job. 

In these cases, the Board rendered eligibility decisions based upon whether a claimant voluntarily left a job in order to accept a permanent full-time position with another employer.

The Board made eligibility decisions based upon whether a claimant left work for an urgent, compelling, and necessitous reason.

In these case, claimants who voluntarily resigned in exchange for a monetary separation package were eligible for benefits only if they reasonably believed that their jobs were in jeopardy.
