In an effort to make paying Stop Work Order (SWO) fines much easier, The Department of Industrial Accidents is now allowing the payment of fines on-line with credit cards. The Department has established a secure website for payment of fines with a credit card.

Before attempting to pay your fine online you will need to have confirmation that your workers' compensation policy is in effect. To confirm that you have workers compensation insurance, and to find out the current fine amount, please contact the DIA's Office of Investigations at 1-877-MASSAFE, ext. 7406. Please have your Stop Work Order (SWO) ID Number ready when you call. Please note: Fines for SWO's are calculated from the date of issuance up to and including the date the policy assignment is confirmed and the fine is paid. For example, a SWO is issued on the 7th and the company obtains insurance on the 10th, the fine accrues for the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th. If the fine is $100.00 per day the total fine due on the 10th is $400.00. In addition, if the SWO is appealed the fine is $250.00 per day. See M.G.L. c. 152, s. 25C.

If for any reason, there is a miscalculation of the fine amount you paid, you will be responsible for the balance. It is extremely important that if you pay online, you pay the day you find the amount of your fine from the Office of Investigations.

In order to pay online with a credit card, you will need to enter your Stop Work Order Number and hit "Continue". This will bring you to the second step where you will select the type of payment you are making and the credit card information. We accept Discover, MasterCard or VISA. After you enter the information and hit "Continue", you will be asked to confirm your entries before the final submission. Once you receive your approval, please write down the Confirmation Number for future reference. There is no fee to use this service.
