Wineries

Massachusetts is one of the rising stars in the world of wine. Twenty-four exciting wineries and numerous vineyards are catching the attention of wine lovers everywhere. Gathering from the diversity and steeped in the best of New England traditions, wines are hand crafted with loving care from grapes, fruit, berries, honey and flowers.

The most common grape wine varieties grown in Massachusetts are the vinifera varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris followed by the American Hybrids Vidal Blanc and Cayuga.

Massachusetts' wineries present you with a wide variety of wines to complement a delicious spectrum of native foods. From aperitifs to soups, salads, the main course, desserts and everything in between, you will find a delightful selection of choices.

The winery produces Merlot, Pinot Grigio, Cabernet and Seyval wines. The 9 1/2 acre vineyard on Cape Cod takes advantage of the special weather effects for ideal growing conditions for the vinifera grapes. From Bourne Bridge follow Rte. 28 to Rte. 151 (Old Silver Beach). Turn right to Mashpee for 3 miles. At lights turn right onto Sandwich Road. Winery is 2 miles, on the left. May - December Sat and Sun., 12-4pm for tastings and gift shop sales; and July and August Wed through Sun., 12-4pm.

Truro Vineyards opens its doors each season to wine lovers from around the world. Our tasting room and gift shop are housed within our carefully restored 1830's farmhouse. Guided tours of the vineyard and winery are offered. Truro Vineyards produces Barrel Fermented Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Maritime Red, Triump Red Blend, Cape Blush, Vignoles and Cranberry Wine. From the Sagamore Bridge take Rte. 6 towards Provincetown. Turn left at Rte. 6A Exit in North Truro. Entrance is 2/10 mile on the right.

Furnace Brook Winery, now nine years old, was founded at the 200 acre Hilltop Orchards in Richmond, MA. This pastoral property is a quintessential example of the open spaces that once dominated the Berkshire region. The wines have won numerous awards at the Big E Northeast Wine Competition. Free wine tasting is offered year-round with apple picking and hayrides in the fall and cross country ski and snowshoeing in the winter. Exit 1 on Mass Turnpike take Rte. 41 north to Richmond to Rte. 295 west 1 mile on right. Less than 9 miles from Lenox and less than 5 miles from Hancock Shaker Village.

Founded in 2002; a New England winery using 100% Californian vinifera grapes from Lodi, 60 miles east of Napa Valley in the Central Valley appellation. Red Oak Winery produces several white and red dry wines including Cabernet, Merlot, Zinfindel, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Every vintage is aged in new French oak barrels that have been slowly toasted over natural wood fires.

Family owned winery specializes in fruit wines and is one of the state's largest, producing 10,000 gallons annually. One of Massachusetts' newest wineries is located at historic Charlton Orchards Farm, specializing in fruit and grape wines. Founded in 1733, the farm is one of the oldest settlements in south central Mass., only 55 minutes from Boston and 15 minutes from historic Sturbridge.
