In order to maximize taxpayer dollars and promote business efficiency, MDAA's principal fiscal mission is to manage major business technology initiatives for the District Attorneys. The substantial majority of MDAA's annual legislative appropriation funds business technology equipment and services.

The District Attorneys collectively employ over 1400 employees statewide who work from 108 locations within the state. MDAA's main technology mission is to provide the technological infrastructure for those employees to accomplish their prosecutorial and business objectives.

The MDAA manages its own Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Wide Area Network (WAN) that connects those 108 locations to the MDAA data center and to the secondary disaster location.  The WAN carries business data and Quality of Service (QoS) controlled Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and is capable of dynamic routing to support business continuity.

In addition to the DA network, the MDAA provides various hardware and software products and desktop and server management for approximately 2800 nodes within the DA enterprise; centrally manages the infrastructure; hosts applications through the use of its VMware farm and the mirrored Disaster Recovery site; and also provides second and third-tier technical assistance for DA staff throughout the state.  The MDAA is responsible for the overall security of the District Attorney’s private statewide network and several mission-critical applications by protecting information and information systems from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction.  This is accomplished through combination of hardware, software, applications, policies, standards, and best practices.

In addition the MDAA centrally purchases and deploys standard technology products and upgrades for the eleven districts; applies for and administers federal grants for technology products and services for the districts; furnishes the infrastructure and fiscally supports the case management system utilized by the District Attorneys.
