GIS Day
2005
|
On November 16, 2005, MassGIS hosted a GIS Day Event in Great Hall at the Massachusetts State House.
The
primary focus of the event was to demonstrate the ubiquity and
diversity of GIS use throughout the State. This was accomplished by
inviting over 20 exhibitors from a variety of State agencies, Regional
Planning Agencies and academia to demonstrate their GIS projects and
applications in an on-going science fair-type format.
Several hundred people attended the event, including many Legislators and State House staff.
Secretary
of Environmental Affairs, Stephen R. Pritchard, spoke about the
usefulness of GIS to the core mission of EOEA and its agencies.
He was
very impressed with the diversity of agencies represented at the
exhibits and mentioned a need for more cooperative cost sharing for
purchases of data by all agencies that would ultimately use that data.
