On November 16, 2006, MassGIS hosted a GIS Day Event in Great Hall at the Massachusetts State House.
The
primary focus of the event was to demonstrate the ubiquity and
diversity of GIS use throughout the State. This was accomplished by
inviting more than 20 exhibitors from a variety of State agencies, Regional
Planning Agencies and academia to demonstrate their GIS projects and
applications in an ongoing science fair-type format.
A steady stream of visitors were present throughout the day, including many Legislators and State House staff.
State
Representative Stephen Kulik; David Davies, IT Director for the
Division of Local Services at the DOR; Middlesex North Register of
Deeds Richard P. Howe, Jr.; Dave Beck, Town of Hull Assessor and
Chairman of the Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers GIS
Committee; and Christian Jacqz, Director of MassGIS discussed the
"Usefulness of GIS in State, Regional, and Municipal Government".
A map and poster gallery featured dozens of submissions showcasing GIS projects across state government.
