Instructions for sending a hard drive
Due to the increased size and quantity of the data available from MassGIS, we are now offering to distribute digital data on external hard drives provided by the customer.
Before you send your hard drive please read the following.
If you have questions about the process of ordering digital data on a hard drive, please send an email to MassGIS at onlinemaps@state.ma.us
In order to have digital data copied to your hard drive by MassGIS you must complete the steps below.

You must provide a new or used external hard drive that meets the specifications below and include all the necessary components (cables etc.). |

| 2. |
Fill out the digital data section of the MassGIS order form.
You must select the Hard Drive storage option and provide specific details of your area of interest. |

| 3. |
In addition to receiving your order confirmation email in 1 - 2 business days,
you will receive a second email containing the MassGIS Order Number which is required to link your digital data request with your hard drive.
*DO NOT* send your hard drive to be filled without your MassGIS Order Number. |

| 4. |
You must print a copy of the Hard Drive Tracking Form and complete all fields.
It MUST include the MassGIS Order Number referenced in Step 3 |

| 5. |
Prepare the hard drive (including a copy of the completed Hard Drive Tracking form) to be shipped to MassGIS.

| 6. |
Please allow 2-3 weeks for the hard drive to arrive, be processed and returned. |

| SHIPPING DETAILS |
| The drive should be shipped via US Postal Mail, DHL, FedEX, or UPS |
| If you wish to drop off the hard drive in person, you MUST send an email to MassGIS at onlinemaps@state.ma.us to schedule a day and time.
In the email please note the preferred day and time you wish to drop off the hard drive . We will respond and if we cannot accommodate you at your preferred time, and suggest alternatives. |

Package your hard drive carefully as your hard drive will be returned in the box in which it was shipped.
If possible, please ship the drive in its original packaging with all cables, etc. |

If you want to expedite the return of your hard drive you can specify the return shipping method of DHL, FedEx or UPS.
On the Tracking form you must include your shipping account number which will be billed for the shipping cost. Otherwise it will be returned using the standard US Postal Mail.
If you choose to pick up your hard drive in person, we will contact you when it is ready in order to schedule a time to retrieve your hard drive.

| We strongly recommend that your hard drive be labeled with your name and the MassGIS Order Number. |

| HARD DRIVE SPECIFICATIONS |

| New or used external hard drive (laptops will not be accepted)
USB 2.0 and / or IEEE 1394 (Firewire 400) interface
Microsoft Windows compatible
The hard drive must be EMPTY - any files / folders with be deleted |

| In order to prevent viruses, when your hard drive arrives: |
| ALL pre-existing data on the hard drive will be erased
MassGIS will scan the drive for viruses, etc. |
