Overview

Creating a version of the Assessor’s tax maps that can be used with GIS software is a high priority for anyone developing a municipal GIS database. This session looked at the process from how you create the specifications for a conversion contractor, through quality assurance of the contractor’s work, to GIS applications for town assessing departments.

"GIS Parcel Map Conversion Specifications"

Mr. Kenne has been involved in parcel map conversion in New England for over 10 years. His presentation focused on how to evaluate parcel maps, identifying specific municipal needs as they relate to conversion, and discussing some of the important specifications that should be in a conversion RFP.

Coordinator, Town of West Springfield.
"QA/QC for Tax Mapping"

The Towns of Amherst & West Springfield are both currently in the middle of the parcel conversion process, as a part of the development of comprehensive base mapping. Both presenters discussed tips for assuring a quality parcel map conversion.

Linda Morneau, Assessor, City of Holyoke
"Assessing Applications of GIS-based Parcel Mapping"

Ms. Morneau presented the various ways the Holyoke Assessing Office, as well as some other Massachusetts communities, are using GIS tools for Assessing applications. These applications include mapping as well as analyses supporting valuation decisions.
