Overview

Creating a version of the Assessor’s tax maps that can be used with GIS software is a high priority for anyone developing a municipal GIS database. This session looked at the process from how you create the specifications for a conversion contractor, through quality assurance of the contractor’s work, to GIS applications for town assessing departments.

"GIS Parcel Map Conversion Specifications"

Mr. Terner and Mr. Brennen and their respective companies have been involved in parcel map conversion in New England for many years. The topics in these presentations will include how to evaluate parcel maps in preparing for conversion, a review of conversion methodologies, and important specifications that should be in a conversion RFP.

The Towns of Weymouth and Andover have, respectively, completed or are completing their parcel map conversion process. These speakers discussed the processes they used for quality assurance on their mapping projects.

These speakers presented the various ways assessors in several Massachusetts communities are using GIS tools for to assist their operations. These applications include mapping as well as analyses supporting valuation decisions.
