Color Ortho Imagery Available Statewide, Including Islands!

  FEBRUARY, 2004 - MassGIS, the Commonwealth's Office of Geographic and Environmental Information, is pleased to announce that imagery for Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and the Elizabeth Islands is now available. The Islands' photography was captured in April, 2003, and delivery and quality control have been completed.

Half-meter resolution,
1:5,000-scale true color ortho imagery is now available for all 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts. Imagery for the mainland, captured in April, 2001, has been available since January, 2003.

This data layer represents a new "base map" for the Commonwealth, providing local and state officials, planners, environmentalists, educators, students, private companies, and the general public with the most up-to-date and highest resolution imagery available at a state level.

With quality control completed for all the data in this layer, the imagery may be:

The aerial photography for the mainland was taken in April, 2001; photography for the Islands (the Elizabeth Islands, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket) was obtained in April, 2003.

The project was jointly funded by MassHighway and the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs.
