Multiple Representations of a View In a Layout

What does multiple representations of a view in a layout mean? It means you might want one layout with different zoom levels of your map. Unfortunately, library data disappears in your layout once you turn off the live link. Since most MassGIS data is in the Librarian system, it seems impossible to make different representations of the same view in a layout. However, there is a workaround:
  1. Create a new layout by highlighting the project window and then the layout icon and hitting the "new" button.
  2. Use the drop down tool menu and select the "picture" tool - the last one on the list. Use this tool to draw boxes on your layout - as many as you want.
  3. Highlight your view window. Choose File in the menu and export. Save the view as a .eps file type.
  4. Make more changes to your view to get to your other representations (i.e. zoom, pan, add themes...) Each time you want to "capture" a view choose File/Export and save as an .eps file.

  5. Highlight the Layout window and double-click on one of the empty picture windows. You will be prompted to enter a file name (you can browse the directory structure for it). Enter the name of the .eps file you would like to put in that box.
