Extension For Producing
High-quality ArcView Layouts
Neil MacGaffey, formerly of the City of Newton
GIS, was given an extension that GIS/Trans wrote for him (Neil is now the Assistant
Director for MassGIS). It reads layout
information from a text file, such as font, text size, view placement parameters,
etc. The extension leads the user through a short series of easy-to-use
menus, allowing for the creation of well-designed, cartographically-correct
ArcView Layouts.
The extension, named GIS/T-ADM
Plot, is designed to partially automate the map creation process,
allowing the users to easily generate high-quality maps that include various
components, including:
-
Current View
-
OverView, showing the location of the
View in comparison to a number of defined Themes
-
Titles
-
Theme Legends
-
Logos
-
ScaleBar
-
Scale Statement
-
North Arrow; and
-
Other text, including Disclaimer, and
creation Date
In addition, the user has the ability
to produce the map at a number of preset scale, as well as generate the
map at various paper sizes. The extension also has a special autolabel
for multiple fields.
Download
the extension (self-extracting gistadm.exe file, 172 kb),
which includes:

-
admplot.avx - the extension itself
-

which places info on the right side of the page
-
botmgis.plt - the plot file which places
info on the bottom of the page
Directions: Hold
