MOVA to Host Community Forum on Homicide Bereavement Services Available in Western Massachusetts

Boston - The Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance (MOVA) will host a community forum on homicide bereavement services offered in Berkshire, Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin counties on Wednesday October 9, 2013 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Forum participants will include officials from law enforcement, community-based victim service providers, criminal justice agencies, and trauma counselors. Participants will discuss services available to surviving family members of homicide and how systems can work together to effectively identify and serve this victim population.

"In the wake of losing of a loved one to homicide, families begin the struggle to understand their new life after violence, while also navigating the complex and foreign criminal justice system", said Liam Lowney Executive Director of MOVA. "It is essential that we as a community understand and offer families the resources that are available to support them on this journey in the days and years that follow. This forum is one opportunity to hear from the exemplary professionals who serve these families each day."

MOVA hosts community forums throughout the state aimed at increasing public awareness of victim services and supports available to those in need.
