Public Awareness & Education

While the victim rights movement has made significant strides over the past decade in educating the public about its concerns, generating concerned awareness about violence, victimization and victim rights remains a major priority at MOVA. Unfortunately, many misconceptions still exist about crime and who becomes a victim. To counter these incorrect assumptions, we work with the media, schools and community groups to educate the public about the causes, symptoms and consequences of violence, as well as what rights individuals have if they become victims of crime. The MOVA staff is available to make presentations to groups about the agency and the criminal justice process in general, as well as on the specific needs of different victim categories, such as homicide, child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, hate crimes, drunk driving, stalking, elder abuse, fraud and property crimes.
