“MTRS Basic Training” for new payroll officials and business administrators
This morning program is designed specifically for business administrators with less than one year on the job and is devoted exclusively to the process of retirement administration and deduction reporting. It is not as in-depth as our summer series, which is designed for a more experienced audience and includes additional topics. Individuals who have more than one year of experience but feel they need a refresher or additional training are also encouraged to attend.
PROGRAM TOPICS
* Introduction to the MTRS
* Overview of common issues (the three retirement benefit options, death and disability benefits, and the effect of Workers’ Compensation on retirement)
* Eligibility standards and enrollment procedures
* Determining contribution rates and calculating deductions
* Reporting contributions
* Regular compensation
* Hiring retired teachers
* Members in military service

The program runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and doors open at 8:30 a.m. for registration

Participation is limited to 30 people per session in Cambridge and 20 in Springfield. We will add more dates and locations if needed. BECAUSE OF SPACE LIMITATIONS, ADVANCE REGISTRATION VIA E-MAIL IS REQUIRED. To reserve a seat, e-mail the MTRS at mailto:empsup@trb.state.ma.us and tell us who will attend from your district. (Because of the limitations on the number of attendees, there will be NO online registration for these sessions.)
