Ready for Retirement is our popular, how-to seminar designed for members retiring in 2013. We’re reaching out to our soon-to-be retirees before the retirement season starts, so that when you are ready to begin the application process, you will know just what you need to do—and when.
An optional, free, two-hour program held from 4–6 p.m., this program walks you through the retirement process and covers such topics as:
- the retirement application process and the benefit calculation formula,
- timelines and service expectations,
- first payment information,
- health insurance, tax and working after retirement issues,
- cost-of-living adjustments after you retire, and
- recent changes to Massachusetts pension law and what they mean for you.
Please note: Personalized account information and pension estimates are not offered during these sessions.

Important notes
- Pre-registration is required: You must register online before the program date.
- Special needs: If you have special needs as far as accessibility, please let us know in advance so that we can arrange to make your participation as convenient and comfortable as possible.
- Program cancellation policy: In the event of inclement weather, the program may be postponed. The program will be postponed if:
- a state of emergency is declared by the Governor;
- school is cancelled in the host district on the day of the program;
- there is an early release at the host district on the day of the program due to weather;
- all evening activities are cancelled at the host district on the day of the program due to weather;
- the MTRS determines that it is too dangerous for staff and MTRS members to travel on the day of the program.
If the program is postponed, you will receive an e-mail from our office (assuming you have provided us with a valid e-mail address) by 1:00 p.m. on the day of the program unless our office is closed due to a state of emergency. Details regarding a make-up date will follow via e-mail and will be posted on our website. If you are at all uncertain, please call 617-679-6877 to hear a recorded message.
